Living in faith
is central to the gathering of believers at Community Mennonite Fellowship (CMF) was once at 209-213 West 2nd Street, Rock Falls Overwhelmed by the need and responsibility of this effort and the retirement of some of the leadership, the Caring Place concluded its ministry through the sponsorship of CMF on July 15, 2010. A ministry of like nature and purpose with broadened community support started soon after at the same location as new leadership, accountability, volunteers, and other details took shape. The Caring Center (which is replacing the Caring Place Clothing Shop) began to function by the end of October 2010. CMF served as its temporary short term sponsor for several months. On October 3, 2011 the Caring Center moved to Sterling where it continues to serve the region. Donations of new or clean and lightly used items can be made during the Monday and Wednesday shop hours 10AM - 4PM at the alley entrance 1/2 block east of the 210 First Ave address between VeriFacts and Fung Ming’s restaurant. Volunteers to help with sorting donated items and restocking the racks and shelves are welcomed. You may call ahead to organize your assistance or come to the counter at the 209 West 2nd Street and volunteer. Questions about addressing a need, volunteering, donating, or other inquiries may be directed to Irene Nusbaum at 815-499-4953 Nusbaum says, she hopes the new location will make it easier for people to find the center and understand its mission. “We want people to know what we are and what we are for the community,” she said. Anyone with clothing needs because of economics can use the center, which allows visitors to take up to 20 free items a visit, twice a month. The Caring Center gets about 1,000 visits and hands out up to 12,000 articles of clothing a month. It operates entirely on donations from business people, churches and organizations, and is run by volunteers. In addition to clothing, the center always is in need of coffee makers, microwaves, TVs, baby furniture, strollers and high chairs, Nusbaum said. Community Mennonite Fellowship is a gathering of believers seeking to live the life of faith Jesus taught and examplified. If you have questions about or interest in claiming the coming of the kingdom of heaven, gather with us in worship, study, and service, so responding to Christ's invitation to new life. -Dan Rusmisel, pastor (815-238-3421)
